Becki Campanaro (she/her)

Dr. Becki Campanaro (she/her) has over 20 years of experience working in higher education and helping students navigate their academic paths. Becki has a BS in Biochemistry from Susquehanna University, a PhD in Biochemistry from Arizona State University, and completed Postdoctoral research training at the University of Pittsburgh. As a Teaching Professor of Biological Sciences at Duquesne University, she is passionate about nurturing holistic student development aiming to foster a supportive environment where students feel confident in their abilities. In addition to teaching courses in biology, Becki designed and teaches a career development course specifically for biological sciences majors that guides students as they create an individualized development plan, identify actionable steps, and build a roadmap to move them closer to their professional aspirations. By focusing on their goals and developing a clear path forward, Becki empowers students to take control of their careers and make informed decisions about their futures.

Whether it’s tackling a difficult concept in biology or navigating the path to their career goals, Becki works alongside her students to ensure they have the tools and confidence they need to succeed. Becki’s goal is to ensure students feel confident and prepared to take on whatever challenges come their way, both in the classroom and in their future careers. She is deeply committed to supporting their growth and finds great fulfillment in seeing them succeed and achieve their goals. Becki understands the importance of providing both emotional and academic guidance and advocates for her students to ensure they have access to the resources and accommodations needed to thrive in college and beyond.

Becki is deeply committed to serving her community. From 2013 to 2020, she was an active member of the Mt. Lebanon Junior Women’s Club, where she served on the executive board in various roles, including Programs Chair, Parliamentarian, Vice President, and President. As PTA President at Hoover Elementary (2020-2022), she worked closely with district administration to advocate for students during remote learning and address other pandemic-related challenges. In 2022, Becki was elected President of the Mt. Lebanon City Council of PTAs for a two-year term. In this role, she facilitated collaboration across the district’s 10 PTA units, working alongside superintendents, principals, teachers, and parents, and played a part in the hiring process for new district leadership.

Becki is a proud wife to Andrew and a dedicated mom living in the Hoover neighborhood. Once a college volleyball player and a multi-sport enthusiast, she now spends her weekends cheering on her two sons, Caleb (10th grade) and AJ (6th grade), as they dive into the world of soccer. When she’s not at practices, games, or tournaments, Becki enjoys some quiet time at home with their three friendly cats, who are always ready provide cozy snuggles at the end of a busy day.

Why I am running

I believe that public schools play a vital role in shaping a strong future for our community, and the best educational systems nurture the holistic growth of each individual. As a School Director, I am committed to upholding the reputation of the Mt. Lebanon School district as a leader and innovator in academic excellence through six key priorities:

Integrating Holistic Growth with Academic Excellence: Advocating for initiatives that blend high-quality academic offerings with programming focused on self-reflection, self-awareness, academic independence, and career exploration, preparing students to realize their personal and professional goals.

Creating Inclusive and Supportive Environments: Advancing initiatives that foster safe, inclusive environments where every student feels supported and empowered to achieve their highest potential.

Balancing Innovation with Responsibility: Supporting policies that address the abuse and misuse of technology, while encouraging educational innovation that equips students for success in an increasingly digital world.

Ensuring Fiscal Responsibility: Evaluating the management and allocation of district finances to ensure long-term financial sustainability while maintaining the district’s leadership in educational excellence.

Fostering Collaboration and Communication: Promoting collaboration by actively listening to community concerns and fostering open dialogue, strengthening relationships between all stakeholders.

Empowering Educators: Supporting the professional expertise and experiences of teachers and academic support staff, enabling them to innovate and enhance the district’s already stellar reputation.
